One Week, One Peak — Semaphore Lakes

This Summer, We’re Taking You on the Trails with Us

This Week’s Pick: Semaphore Lakes

Looking for a trail that’s stunning, accessible, and full of alpine magic? Meet Semaphore Lakes, just north of Pemberton, a gem that delivers incredible views, peaceful lakes, and a touch of adventure.

At Peak, we believe true fitness isn’t just about the gym, it’s about being ready for moments like these. Hiking Semaphore Lakes is a perfect way to put your strength and stamina to the test, surrounded by wild beauty.

Why We Love It

The trail kicks off in the forest on a narrow path that climbs gently over some rocky spots — nothing too crazy. Before long, you’ll find yourself hiking up through meadows sprinkled with alpine flowers. As the trees thin out, those jaw-dropping views of Face Mountain and Locomotive Mountain come into clear view.

But the real stars? Semaphore Lakes — three stunning alpine lakes with crystal-clear water. Perfect spots to pause, grab a snack, or if you’re feeling bold, take a chilly dip.

What to Expect on the Trail

From the trailhead on Hurley Forest Service Road, just follow the markers into the forest. The path picks up quickly with roots, rocks, and some muddy spots — waterproof boots are definitely a smart call. About halfway in, the trail splits; take the right fork to skip some extra climbing and head straight to the first lake.

The climb continues through open alpine terrain, with Locomotive Mountain towering above. As you pass the second and third lakes, take a moment to really soak in those views — the valley scenery here is something else.

Tips Before You Go

As always, good shoes!

  • Bug spray will keep the mosquitoes at bay

  • Parking is available at the pullout about 14 km up Hurley FSR; follow the road past where Google Maps cuts out

  • Bring a picnic — the views at the lakes make it the perfect spot to linger and recharge!
